A man was arrested here Thursday for being part of a gang that poisoned to death a man who refused to let their car overtake his vehicle, police said. Six others, including a local politician, are absconding.
"We have arrested Sonu and attempts are on to arrest the others," Senior Superintendent of Police Raghuvir Lal said.
He said the ghastly incident occurred Nov 20 in Dhaulana area. Samajwadi Party leader Yudhwir Bata, travelling in a Tata Safari with six others, tried to overtake a car but it did not let him pass.
A furious Bata then overtook the car and forced out its occupants Sahil and Nitin, both technicians with Tata Sky company.
The two were dragged to the Tata Safari and thrashed. While Nitin managed to escape, Sahil was forcibly fed poison, leading to his death.
Bata and his men then abandoned the body and the car and fled, Lal said.
Yudhwir Batas wife is a district panchayat member from Dhaulana. A reward of Rs.5,000 has been announced for information leading to his arrest.
